#7 Men’s Soccer Falls in Tough Loss to #1 Charleston, 1-0, in Atlantic Regional Final

NORTH ANDOVER, Ma. – A 25th minute goal from University of Charleston's Kevin Feucht was the deciding factor in the Atlantic Regional Final, as the #1 Golden Eagles defeated #7 Mercyhurst, 1-0.

In the first half, the Lakers generated nine shots, three of which were on net, outshooting the Golden Eagles, 9-3. However, the Golden Eagles were able to put all three of their first half shots on net, scoring on the second shot in the 25th minute. Charleston's Augusto Maciel played a through ball into space that allowed teammate Kevin Feucht to break away from the Laker defense and take the, 1-0, advantage.

Charleston goalkeeper, Fabian Feit, received help in route to his 11th shutout of the year, when Sten Marcson blasted a shot off the left post that deflected away from the danger area for no Laker rebound opportunity.

Mercyhurst was in control of possession for most of the second half, but the Charleston defense, who has only let up one goal in their last eight games, held the high powered Laker offense in check for the remainder of the period. The contest marked the first time all season the Lakers were shutout.

The Golden Eagles totaled six shots over the final 45 minutes, compared to five attempts for Mercyhurst.

Laker goalkeeper Nicolas Smith received the start in net, after injuring his finger in warm-ups before the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) second round. Smith recorded six saves overall, while Veit remained unbeaten on the year by making three saves.
