MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Mercyhurst women's hockey team is eighth in this week's USCHO.com Poll, released Monday. The Lakers play at Ohio State on Tuesday, November 11, at 6:07 p.m.
 
Boston College remained at the top of the poll this week, earning all 15 first-place votes. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Harvard, and Quinnipiac kept their spots in the top five. Boston stayed sixth, while Clarkson jumped to seventh. Mercyhurst checked in at #8. Minnesota-Duluth and Dartmouth finished the rankings.
 
The Lakers beat Syracuse, 5-1, on Friday, as Amanda Makela made a season-high 28 saves. Emily Janiga recorded a goal and an assist, while Megan Whiddon dished out a pair of assists. The Orange took a 4-1 decision on Saturday. Jennifer MacAskill scored her first collegiate goal for the Lakers, who had a six-game winning streak snapped. Mercyhurst also saw its 29-game unbeaten streak against Syracuse end.
 
Mercyhurst plays at Ohio State tomorrow and then has a weekend off before returning to the MIC on for a weekend series with RIT on November 21-22.
 
OSU is 7-3-0 this season, including a weekend sweep at Minnesota State. Stacy Danczak shut out the Mavericks in a 2-0 win on Saturday. In a 3-1 win the day before, three different Buckeyes scored.
 
The Lakers are 9-2-1 in the 2014-15 season. Janiga leads the team with nine goals and five assists, while Makela has made all 12 starts in net, allowing 1.08 goals per game.
 
Julia McKinnon paces Ohio State with five goals and an assist. Sara Schmitt has two goals and four helpers. Freshman Kassiday Sauve has seen the majority of the time in goal, posting a 1.84 goals against average in nine starts.
