#12 Men's Soccer Continues Winning Streak With Win at Seton Hill, 2-1

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The #12 Mercyhurst men's soccer team continues their winning streak to eight straight as they beat Seton Hill on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup, 2-1.

Seton Hill came into the contest winning three of their last four going 3-0-1 in PSAC play.

The Lakers have now won their last five conference games after losing their PSAC opener to West Chester at home, 1-2.

Senior Fernando Martinez, the Tegucigalpa, Honduras native, started the game off with a goal that was assisted by teammate Danny Deakin in the second minute of the game for an early 1-0 lead. It was Martinez's sixth goal of the season and Deakins conference leading ninth assist.

In the second half, Rory McKinnon would produce the equalizer for the Griffins at the 75:39 mark when he was assisted by teammates Joe Tchimou and Trevor Martz for the 1-1 tie late in the contest.

However, PSAC leading goal scorer Jack Watson would respond with less than four minutes to play for the game winning goal and a 2-1 Laker victory. It was Watson's 15th goal in 14 games played this season. The Dublin, Ireland native continues to lead the conference in goals (15), goals per game (1.071), game winning goals (5), points (35), and points per game (2.50).

The Lakers outshot the Griffins 15-6 and held the corner kick advantage 5-2 throughout the contest.

Goal keeper Ryan Arvin continues his unbeaten status as he recorded two saves on six shots to improve to 7-0-0 in net.

With the win, the Lakers improve their overall record to 12-2-0 overall (5-1-0 PSAC). Mercyhurst continues to lead the PSAC with three of their four conference games coming on the road to close out the year.

The men will be back in action Wednesday, October 22, at California (Pa.). Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
