ERIE, Pa. – The women's soccer team will host 24
th ranked Slippery Rock Saturday, October 11, at Mercyhurst Soccer Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
The Lakers are currently riding a three game losing streak but are looking to turn that around with a big home victory over a ranked conference opponent this weekend.
Last season, Mercyhurst knocked off 9
th ranked Millersville and 24
th ranked Gannon, 3-1 and are hoping a victory Saturday will get them back in the middle of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference race.
The last time the Lakers have defeated Slippery Rock was 2009 in a 2-1 victory in overtime. Dating back to 1987 the Lakers are 16-5-1 against the rock with five of those losses coming in the last two seasons.
Junior
Lauren Testa looks to continue her stellar year. Testa added her seventh goal of the season in a 3-2 loss at California (Pa.) Wednesday night. She is currently tied for first in the PSAC with Brittany Kuhns of Indiana (Pa.) in goals scored and leads the league in goals per game averaging .636.
Senior
Janine Wong is another Laker putting up solid numbers this season. Wong's has posted nine points with four goals and one assist. She is currently 2-2 on penalty shots this year, and her other two goals have come off of free kicks.
However, Testa and Wong will be challenged to score on Rock goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman. Hegeman is one of the top goalies in the conference, leading the league in shutouts with five and is second in goals against average (.501) and saves (43).
Slippery Rock comes into the game in fourth place in the PSAC with a 7-2-1 overall record (6-2-1 PSAC). The Lakers are currently 14th in the PSAC standings with a 3-7-1 overall record (2-7-1 PSAC).
