Men's Hoops Hosts Millersville to Open Three-Game Home Stand

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball hosts Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover on Wednesday, January 8. Tip-off is lined up for 7:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Mercyhurst sports a 6-6 record this season. It lost, 80-72, at West Chester before winning, 54-44, at Cheyney last weekend. Wednesday marks the Lakers' final crossover contest of the season. The Lakers are 2-3 in crossover action, which does not count in PSAC standings.
 
Millersville is 5-6, including a three-game winning streak entering Wednesday. The Marauders defeated California (Pa.), Slippery Rock, and Edinboro at home. Millersville is also 2-3 in crossover play this season. It is 0-5 on the road.
 
The Lakers feature one of the nation's top defenses. They allow 61.8 points per game, good for second in the PSAC and seventh nationally. Mercyhurst has held all 12 of its opponents under their season scoring average.
 
Jonathan Ouegnin leads the team in four different statistical categories. The senior is averaging 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He is shooting 58.6 percent from the field. Ouegnin is also tied for the team lead with 18 steals this season.
 
Millersville is among the most prolific three-point shooting teams in the country. It makes over 10 treys per game, which leads the PSAC and stands 12th nationally. They also pace the conference in three-point attempts, shooting 30.7 per game. The Marauders rank 27th in blocked shots with five per game. Xavier Mumford leads the league with 2.64 blocks a game, good for 17th in Division II.
 
Jalen Lester leads the offense with 12.4 points per game. Tavon Parker and Tyree Smith are both averaging over 10 points a contest. Mumford leads the team with 8.5 rebounds a game and a 57.1 field goal percentage.
 
The match begins a season-long three-game home stand for the Lakers. They host #6 Indiana (Pa.) on January 11 and then Edinboro on January 15.
