Men's Basketball Heads to UPJ for First Time as PSAC Foes

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team travels to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, January 25. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip-off.

The Lakers are 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the PSAC. They beat Clarion, 61-54, on Wednesday night, posting an 18-10 run to end the game. Jonathan Ouegnin scored 13 points and Anthony Lytle added 12.
 
UPJ is 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference. It lost, 72-59, at Gannon on Wednesday night. Ian Vescovi led with 19 points and six rebounds, while Bill Luther chipped in with 10 points.
 
Ouegnin leads the Mercyhurst attack, averaging 10.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He is shooting 54.8 percent from the floor. Jean Onana is scoring 9.1 points a game, having hit a team-high 24 three-pointers this season. Lytle is putting up nine points per game while shooting 53.2 percent from the field.
 
Vescovi has been the Mountain Cats' top performer this season. He is averaging 14 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He leads the PSAC with his 61.7 percent field goal shooting. Luther is next with 13.5 points a contest.
 
Mercyhurst is allowing 61.2 points per game, good for sixth nationally. UPJ is scoring 76.1 points a game, tied with Seton Hill for best in the Western Division.
 
The contest is the first between the programs as conference foes. UPJ joined the PSAC, along with Seton Hill, before the 2013-14 school year. Mercyhurst holds an 18-17 edge in the all-time series with the Mountain Cats.
