Women's Basketball Prepares for Clarion Wednesday at the MAC

Alex Artise has hit 21 three-pointers this season, second-most on the team.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team hosts Clarion on Wednesday, January 22. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Mercyhurst is 5-11 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC. It has won three of its last five outings, including an 82-75 win at Slippery Rock Saturday. Five Lakers scored in double figures, led by freshman Katie Fischer, who had 20 points. Adrienne Kloecker recorded 19 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Alayna White tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers scored 48 points in the second half, a season high for one period.
 
Clarion has a 7-9 record, including a 1-5 mark in the conference. The Golden Eagles lost, 64-58, to Seton Hill Saturday. Hannah Heeter put up 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tania Holmes and Emma Fickel each scored 11 points.
 
The Lakers are one of the top rebounding teams in the country. They have outrebounded their opponents by an average of 7.3 per game. That mark leads the PSAC and stands 29th in Division II. White leads four Lakers who are averaging over five rebounds per game. She is pulling down 9.3 boards a game, good for third in the league and 55th nationally. Her seven double-doubles are also third in the PSAC and 23rd in the country.
 
Kloecker leads the Lakers in scoring with 15.4 points per game. She is scoring 21.6 points per game in her last six outings. The sophomore is the first Laker to score at least 18 points in six straight games in at least 16 years.
 
Clarion is shooting 42.6 percent from the field this season, good for fifth in the PSAC. The Eagles also rank fifth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.88) and blocked shots per game (3.6). Fickel paces the team with 13.7 points per game, while Heeter and Kelly Johnson are scoring 13.2 points and 13.0 points a game, respectively.
