Volleyball Hosts PSAC Crossover at MAC This Weekend

Sarah Wegrzyn and the Lakers will open PSAC action this weekend.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team will host a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center this weekend. The Lakers will play four times and host four neutral matches Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28.
 
On Friday, Mercyhurst hosts East Stroudsburg at 11:30 a.m. and Kutztown at 7:30 p.m. Kutztown and Slippery Rock face off at 2 p.m. and then East Stroudsburg and The Rock play at 5 p.m.
 
On Saturday, the Lakers take on Cheyney at 10 a.m. and West Chester at 6 p.m. West Chester and Slippery Rock square off at 12:30 p.m. and Cheyney and Slippery Rock play at 3:30 p.m.

The Lakers have a 6-4 record this season, coming off an unbeaten home weekend September 20-21. They beat West Virginia State, Notre Dame College, and West Virginia Wesleyan. Rachel Crittle leads the team with 110.5 points (69 kills, 20 aces, 39 total blocks). Camille Alvarez and Sarah Vick have combined for 173.5 points this season, while Tai Lattimore has 149 assists. Nicole Texido has compiled 169 digs to lead the Lakers.
 
East Stroudsburg is 5-7, including four losses at the American International Tournament last weekend. Sydney Galoozis leads the Warriors with 113 kills and Annabelle Charlton is right behind with 103 this season. Allye Preziosi has a team-high 210 assists. ESU was voted to finish seventh in the PSAC Eastern Division, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
 
Kutztown has a 6-5 mark this year. It split four contests in West Virginia last weekend. The Golden Bears defeated Fairmont State and Charleston, but lost to Wheeling Jesuit and West Liberty. Audrey Stringer has a team-high 160 points (131 kills, one ace, 44 total blocks). KU was chosen fifth in the preseason poll.
 
Cheyney is 2-6 and will have momentum on its side entering this weekend. The Wolves beat Shaw (NC) on Saturday, marking their first win over an NCAA Division II opponent in over 20 years. Cheyney followed with a five-game victory over Lincoln on Wednesday, giving the Wolves their first multi-win campaign since 1995. Breanna Joseph leads with 74 points (52 kills, eight aces, 17 total blocks). CU was voted eighth in the preseason rankings.
 
West Chester has an 8-0 record, including five sweeps in their non-conference schedule. Paige Thommes has 97.5 points (90 kills, one ace, 11 total blocks), while Marina Sharkey has 83.5 points this season. The Golden Rams were chosen to finish in a third-place tie in the Eastern Division.
