ERIE, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Mercyhurst University Lakers fell to No. 23 Ohio Dominican, 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers fell to a record of 3-2-0 in the season while the Panthers improve to 3-0-1.

Mercyhurst outshot Ohio Dominican, twelve to seven, in the first half, but it was the Panthers who outscored Mercyhurst. The Panthers' Frazer Fernandes tallied the first goal at the 21:32 mark of the first half. Ohio Dominican's Billy McGlone led Fernandes far from the 50 yard mark to give him a breakaway. Fernandes then was able to have a one-on-one with Lakers' goaltender Mikko Sarkkinen in the penalty box, which he beat to the bottom left corner.

With the 1-0 advantage, Ohio Dominican struck again at the 29:20 mark of the first half. After the Lakers' defense created an unintentional pass to Sarkkinen's hands, the Panthers were awarded an indirect kick from 6 yards in front of the Lakers' goal. GJ Cook took the kick by tapping the ball to Jakob Szabo who finished the pass into the left side of the net.

Throughout the second, Mercyhurst outshot a drastic 13 to three margin over Ohio Dominican but were even with shots on goal at 5. Junior Fernando Martinez tallied seven shots throughout the contest, with three reaching the net. Freshman Danny Deakin marked four shots while freshman Jack Watson shot three.

Lakers goaltender Sarrkinen allowed two goals on seven shots on goal. Sarkkinen also marked a penalty kick save at the 60:19 mark of the match, making his penalty kick saves 2-2 on the season.

Mercyhurst will continue its home action on Friday, September 20, at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. The Lakers will take on Salem International at 4:00 p.m.
