ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst University women's tennis team began its three-game home stand in not-so-grand fashion, as the Ashland Eagles handed the Lakers its first loss of the year in a 6-3 contest. The defeat dropped Mercyhurst's record to 10-1.
Caroline Bristol continued her consistantly stellar performance with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Erika Sullivan in the No. 1 singles match.
Sarah Baich also stayed perfect in singles play by prevailing 6-0, 6-4 against Andrea Ruiz in the No. 4 match.
Rebecca Haener acquired the Lakers' only other win through a little extra work, pulling out a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) triumph over Martina Baca in the No. 3 singles match. Ashland would take all three doubles matches to secure the win.
Mercyhurst will continue its home stand on Tuesday, March 26, as they welcome the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks for a 2 p.m. match.
