ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will host Slippery Rock on Saturday, February 9, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game is part of the “Hooping For a Cure” campaign. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
 
The Lakers will wear special pink uniforms for the game, with all proceeds going to The Kimball Foundation to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
 
Mercyhurst is 6-14 overall and 6-10 in the PSAC. It won, 70-67, at Lock Haven on Wednesday, as four different Lakers scoring double figures. After falling behind 21-4 and then 45-30 at halftime, Mercyhurst rallied to take a 68-60 lead in the final four minutes of the contest. It held off a late Eagle comeback to pick up a key conference victory. Kaylee Foster hit 11-12 free throws on her way to 15 points, while Dana Banda added 13 points and four assists. Abby Allen posted 12 points and six rebounds and Alayna White added 11 points and nine boards.
 
Slippery Rock is 4-16 overall and 3-13 in the league. It has dropped seven straight, including a 74-68 loss to Clarion on Wednesday. Christa Wodarczyk led with 19 points, while Erinne Cunningham scored 13 points and dished out six assists. The Rock shot 13-36 on three-point attempts in the defeat.
 
The Lakers are alone in sixth place in the Western Division. The top six teams from each division qualify for the PSAC Tournament. At 6-10, Mercyhurst is three games ahead of Slippery Rock and Lock Haven and one gam back of fifth-place Clarion.
 
On the season, Foster paces the Lakers with 11 points per game. Banda is next with 10 per outing. She now has 368 assists in her career, second-most in program history. Katie Lorincz is the school's record holder with 384 helpers.
 
Cunningham leads SRU with 11.1 points and 36 made treys. D'Asia Chambers is averaging 9.3 points and 6.3 boards.
 
Coach Deanna Richard's squad won, 60-44, at The Rock on January 19. Foster scored 15 points and Banda and Paris Thomas each added 11 points. The Laker defense held Slippery Rock 15 first-half points and 1-19 three-point accuracy in the game.
