Men's Hoops Hosts Slippery Rock Saturday Afternoon at MAC

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest Saturday, February 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
The Lakers will wear special black warm-up shirts for the game, with all proceeds going to The Kimball Foundation to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
 
Mercyhurst sports a 13-9 overall record and a 9-7 PSAC mark. It took a 57-40 decision at Lock Haven on Wednesday, holding the Bald Eagles scoreless in the last 5:11 of the second half. Jonathan Ouegnin recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists, while Jean Onana had 15 points and six boards-both career highs.
 
The Rock are 15-5 overall and 12-4 in the conference. It won, 69-49, against Clarion on Wednesday. Darious Clark led with 18 points and seven rebounds and Tabari Perry added 12 points and seven boards of his own. SRU's defense held the Eagles to 27.4 percent field goal shooting.
 
The Lakers are tied with Edinboro for fourth place in the Western Division. Edinboro owns the tiebreaker at the moment, having won at the MAC January 30. The teams meet at McComb Fieldhouse on February 27 to end the regular season. IUP leads the division at 13-3, while The Rock and Gannon are next at 12-4. All three programs have clinched PSAC Tournament bids. The top six teams from each division advance to the conference playoffs.
 
Luis Leao leads the Lakers with 19.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Ouegnin is putting up 8.8 points, 4.1 boards, 3.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per outing. He is also shooting over 58 percent from the floor. Onana has come on recently, scoring 13 points in an overtime win against California (Pa.) before putting up 15 at LHU.
 
Devin Taylor paces a balanced attack for The Rock. Taylor is averaging 13.8 points and 10.4 rebounds. Clark, Perry and Gerald Brooks each score more than 11 points per game.
 
SRU is third in the league in scoring at 73 points per game. The Lakers rank in points allowed, giving up just 61.1 points a contest. The game features the top two free throw shooting teams in the PSAC, as Mercyhurst hits a league-best 76.9 percent, while The Rock makes 76.6 percent of its attempts. The Lakers will need to hit the boards, as Slippery Rock leads the conference in rebounding. Mercyhurst ranks last in boards among PSAC teams.
 
The Rock won, 56-48, at home on January 19. Taylor and Perry each scored 15 points, while Leao had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Lakers. Mercyhurst made 2-16 three-point tries.
