EDINBORO, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 76-38, at #18 Edinboro Wednesday. The Lakers will travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a first-round Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament game on Saturday, March 2.
On Wednesday, the Fighting Scots went up 6-0 and never looked back.
Paris Thomas scored inside for the first Laker hoop with 16:36 left in the half. After four more Scot points,
Laura McCauley made a layup, but Darche' Jackson quickly answered with a jumper. Edinboro went up, 24-8, before
Kaylee Foster sank two free throws.
Kristi Ewanick followed with a steal and a jump shot with 8:58 to play.
The hosts came back with a 12-0 run to stretch the lead before McCauley's layup with 2:19 left in the period made it 36-14. Another seven Scot points made it a 29-point halftime differential.
Foster and Ewanick each scored seven points, while McCauley and
Dana Banda each had six. Ewanick also grabbed seven rebounds. Samantha Blazetic led Edinboro with 18 points, while Kiara Brown had 16 points.
Mercyhurst concluded the regular season with a 7-19 overall mark and a 7-15 record in the PSAC. Edinboro moved to 21-5 overall and 18-4 in the conference. It earned a first-round bye and will host the winner of Saturday's Mercyhurst-IUP matchup on Tuesday, March 5.
The Lakers play at IUP Saturday. The Crimson Hawks swept the season series. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
