Women's Hoops to Host California (Pa.) Saturday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will host California (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest is part of the school's National Girls and Women in Sports Day event at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The first 400 fans in attendance will receive a free poster featuring the women's basketball schedule.

The Lakers are 5-13 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC. They lost, 63-46, to #21 Edinboro Wednesday. Mercyhurst forced a season-high 29 turnovers, but Kiara Brown scored 25 points to lead the Fighting Scots to a win. Kaylee Foster had 12 points to lead the Lakers.
 
Cal has a 13-5 record and a 9-5 conference mark. It beat Clarion, 69-44, Wednesday. Stephanie Michael scored 18 points on six three-pointers. The Vulcans have won three straight to take control of fourth place in the Western Division.
 
Foster leads the Lakers with 10.4 points per game, while Dana Banda is putting up 9.9 points per outing. She had three assists Wednesday, giving her 362 career helpers. Banda is tied with Teresa Szumigala for second on the school's all-time list. Katie Lorincz has the career mark with 384.
 
Michael is averaging 12.7 points per game, having hit 43 threes this season. Ashley Hines comes off the bench to put up 9.9 points and 7.9 boards per game. Emma Mahady is next with 9.7 points a game.
 
Mercyhurst is tied with Clarion for fifth place in the West. The top six teams in each division advance to the PSAC Tournament. Lock Haven and Slippery Rock are tied for seventh at 3-11 in the league.
