Women's Hoops Travels to #2 Gannon Saturday Evening (Video)

Alayna White leads the Lakers in scoring and rebounding this season.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team plays at #2 Gannon on Saturday, December 7. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Hammermill Center.

The Lakers are 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC. They fell, 71-66, to California (Pa.) on Wednesday. Five different players scored in double figures, led by freshman Alex Artise, who had a career-high 15 points. It marked the first time five Lakers scored in double-digits in the same game since December 7, 2009, at Lock Haven. Current assistant coach Amy Achesinski and Artise's cousin, Jackie Artise, were part of the group that scored 10 or more points.
 
Gannon won the NCAA Atlantic Region in 2012-13 and entered this season ranked second in the nation. It has won its first seven outings under new head coach Jim Brunelli. The Lady Knights defeated Slippery Rock, 76-73, on the road Wednesday.
 
Alayna White leads the Lakers with 13.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Adrienne Kloecker is putting up 12.7 points and 5.8 boards per contest, while Natalie Piaggesi is adding 9.3 points and 7 rebounds a game.
 
Brittany Batts has been GU's top scorer at 15.9 points per. Nettie Blake has posted 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Jen Papich is tacking on 11.6 points and 6.6 boards a game.
