ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell, 60-47, to #23 Ashland Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Alayna White totaled 17 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Lakers.

The contest was tight for much of the day, but AU pulled away in the middle of the second half, scoring six straight points and going on a larger 18-9 run to take control.

In the first half, Katie Fischer opened scoring with a layup. After the Eagles scored six in a row, Natalie Piaggesi made a lay-in. With the visitors ahead, 11-4, Alex Artise sank a three-pointer at the 14:19 mark. A pair of Adrienne Kloecker treys made it 19-16 AU with 6:45 left in the frame. White scored inside twice and then Jessica drilled a triple to make it 23-all with 1:21 remaining in the half. The teams went into the locker room with the same score.

White made a hoop and Kloecker hit a three to start the second half, staking the Lakers to a 28-23 advantage. The Eagles, the defending NCAA Champions, answered with a 10-0 run to regain the lead. Buckets by Mariah Penascino and Kloecker kept it close, but AU continued to find success offensively, maintaining a slim margin the rest of the way.

White had 17 points and 13 boards. Kloecker added 13 points and four rebounds, while Bell posted seven points and four boards off the bench. Penascino tacked on six assists, five boards, and three blocked shots. McKenzie Miller led AU with 15 points.

Mercyhurst is now 1-4 this season. It hosts California (Pa.) on Wednesday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the game will benefit the AJO Fund as fans are encouraged to wear white to "White Out Epilepsy".
