Volleyball Drops Four-Game Decision to The Rock Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team lost to Slippery Rock in four games Saturday afternoon. The Lakers dropped the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest by scores of 29-27, 29-27, 24-26, and 25-23 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
After The Rock won two tight sets to take control of the match, the Lakers responded with a win in the third frame. The teams battled back and forth with neither side gaining an edge. A pair of Lexi Stefanov kills and points by Sarah Wegrzyn and Camille Alvarez gave Mercyhurst a 13-9 advantage. Slippery Rock answered to tie the game at 18. Kelsi Romatowski put down two kills to lead a 4-0 spurt and put the hosts back in charge. Veronica Crosby posted two points and then Alvarez closed the set with a pair of kills from Tai Lattimore.
 
The Rock followed with another close victory in the fourth frame. Stefanov finished with 16.5 points and Rachel Crittle totaled 16 points. Lattimore and Kelly Vitt combined for 53 assists, while Nicole Texido recorded 23 digs. In total, the match featured 39 ties and 22 lead changes.
 
Mercyhurst fell to 15-12 overall and 9-8 in the PSAC. SRU is now 10-20 overall and 5-12 in the league. The Lakers host rival Gannon on Tuesday, November 5, in another conference contest.
