The Lakers opened the 2013-14 regular season with a 75-68 loss to Findlay on November 16. Freshman Natalie Piaggesi led with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Alayna White posted 13 points and 14 boards. They are the first Laker duo to have double-doubles in the same game since December 1, 2004, when Julie Anderson and Jessica Olmstead did it. Piaggesi's 22 points are the most by a Laker freshman in her first contest since Julie McChesney scored 22 to begin the 1991-92 season.

Seton Hill has started the year 3-0, beating West Virginia Tech, University of the Sciences and Shepherd. Paige Alviani leads the Griffins with 22.7 points per game. Freshman Katie Gattuso is averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds per game.

In the PSAC Western Division preseason coaches' poll, Seton Hill was voted to finish fifth, while Mercyhurst was chosen seventh. This is the Griffins' first season in the PSAC.

The programs have split two all-time meetings, with the Lakers winning the last matchup in 1993.
