Women's Basketball Hosts Findlay in 2013-14 Opener Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team opens the 2013-14 regular season with a non-conference game against the University of Findlay on Saturday, November 16. Tip-off is slated for a 1 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Mercyhurst advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament last season. Sophomore Adrienne Kloecker is back after averaging 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She connected on a team-high 44 three-pointers last season. Senior Alayna White returns to lead the frontcourt after posting 7.2 points and a team-leading 4.9 boards per game a year ago.
 
In 2013-14, Coach Deanna Richard begins her seventh season as Lakers' head coach. She has brought in her largest freshmen class ever, as six rookies will be on the roster this season. Haley Witchella, a junior transfer, is another newcomer this year.
 
Findlay won 24 games in 2012-13, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The Oilers lost their top three scorers and their head coach in the offseason. Margaret Wuebker is back after starting 26 games last season. She averaged 5.5 points per game, most among Oiler returners. Jim Wiedie takes over as head coach after serving as an assistant for the last two years.
 
Findlay leads the all-time series, 17-6. The teams met early in the 2010-11 season, with the Oilers winning, 65-41.
