SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock broke open a tight match with five second half goals to defeat the Mercyhurst women's soccer team 6-0 Saturday afternoon. The Rock improved to 6-2-1 overall and to 5-2-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Mercyhurst fell to 4-5-1 and 3-5-1 respectively.
Andrea Felix scored the lone first half goal, her fifth of the season, at 26:54 finishing a give-and-go with Crysta Ganter. Slippery Rock owned an 8-2 advantage in shots for the first 45 minutes.
Ganter scored her first of the year, from Felix, in the first minute of the second half to make it 2-0. Ali Brosky followed with her first of the year five minutes later as the lead swelled to three. The Rock put the game away with three goals seven minutes apart later in the half. Felix finished a hat trick with back-to-back markers at 71:25 and 77:10. Dara Demich ended the scoring with her fourth of the year at 78:41.
Slippery Rock outshot Mercyhurst 17-6 in the game and had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Ellie McDougall made three saves in goal for Mercuhurst. Slippery Rock goalies Dana O'Neill (75:32) and Annabelle Hegeman (14:28) collaborated on the shutout.
Mercyhurst will try to snap a two-game skid when it travels to Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday, October 9. The match is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
