Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight; Blanks Mansfield 4-0

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's soccer team captured their third straight shutout after beating Mansfield 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers improved to 9-7-1 overall in the season and 8-6-1 in the PSAC. Mansfield fell to 4-11-1 overall and 3-11-1 in the PSAC.

Mansfield played a man down throughout the majority of the contest after their goaltender Sarah Nezelek received a red card at the 41:27 mark.

Just a minute later, senior Gabrielle Catrabone scored her second goal of the season from 40 yards away from the Senators net. The Lakers headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

The Lakers offense ignited as they scored three goals late in the second half. Sophomore Kristina Roberti scored her second goal of the season at the 75:27 mark after capitalizing on a rebound from senior Perrin Kern.

Four minutes later, junior Emily Leiby shot a text book header into the top right corner of the net off of a corner kick taken by junior Janine Wong. Leiby's goal marked her third of the season.

Freshman Carly Zimmerman ended the scoring at the 88:39 mark from junior Kiley Cleveland. All told, seven different Lakers contributed to the scoring throughout the match.

The Lakers outshot Mansfield 25 to nine throughout the entire 90:00 minutes. 13 of the 25 shots reached the net for Mercyhurst.

Sophomore Ellie McDougall made three saves to collect her third consecutive shutout while in net for Mercyhurst. McDougall (9-7-1) now has five in the season. Alana Krieger suffered the loss for the Senators after making six saves on ten shots faced.

The Lakers travel to Kutztown for their final match of the season as they continue their quest towards receiving a bid for the PSAC playoffs. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2.
