McAlpin sends Mercyhurst to A 1-0 win over Clarion Tuesday

CLARION, Pa. – Freshman Nicole McAlpin scored in the 102 minute to propel the Mercyhurst University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Clarion University Tuesday night. With the win, the Lakers improved to 7-7-1 in the season and 6-6-1 in the PSAC. Clarion fell to 4-7-3 overall and 3-7-3 in the PSAC.

The overtime period marked the Lakers fourth contest that resulted in an overtime appearance. This time however marked the Lakers captured their first result in an overtime game this season.

The Lakers outshot the Eagles 24 to four throughout the contest with 16 of the shots taken in the first half. Sophomore Lauren Testa led the Lakers with five shots taken and four of them reaching the net. Sophomore Kristina Roberti tallied four shots, two of them on net, while McAlpin attempted two shots with both reaching the goal.

McAlpin scored her first goal of the season and first game-winner against the Eagles. Senior Perrin Kern set up McAlpin, which marked her second assist of the season.

Sophomore Ellie McDougall made three saves in the win. She improved to 7-7-1 overall in the season.

The Lakers continue their PSAC action by hosting Indiana (Pa.) University at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
