Women's Soccer Drops to Edinboro 3-1

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's soccer team fell to Edinboro 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers fell to 6-7-1 overall in the season and 5-6-1 in the PSAC. Edinboro improved to 10-3-1 and 8-3-1 in the PSAC.

The Fighting Scots tallied their first shot on a penalty kick at the 10:44 mark of the first half. Becca Costello scored her fifth goal of the season and gave her team the 1-0 advantage. Sophomore goaltender Ellie McDougall is now 1-2 against penalty kicks.

Liz Debo gave Edinboro a 2-0 lead at the 38:43 mark of the first and again at the 85:51 mark on a breakaway.

The Lakers offense gave a last minute effort by scoring their first goal of the contest and prevented the shutout. Junior Janine Wong sent a corner kick through traffic for senior Perrin Kern to head into the right side of the net. Kern's goal matched her season-high fourth of the season.

Mercyhurst was outshot 12 to seven against the Fighting Scots and six-to-three goals reaching the net.

McDougall made three saves on five shots on net as she fell to 6-7-1 while in net for the Lakers. The Fighting Scots' Meghan Kelly made one save to capture the win.

The Lakers head to Clarion University on Tuesday, October 22. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
