Men's Water Polo Looks for 3rd Straight Division II Title

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team will compete for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championship this weekend at Notre Dame College. The Lakers face Salem International at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, in the first round of the one-day event.
 
At 12:30 p.m., Notre Dame will face Gannon in the other first round contest. The losers of the first-round matches will compete at 3:30 p.m. in the third-place game. The winners will square off at 5 p.m. for the Division II title.
 
Meryhurst has earned the top seed in 2013, going 11-3, including four wins last weekend. Garret Schoeman has a team-high 50 points on 23 goals and 27 assists this season. Brett Luehmann has scored 33 goals, while Isaac Ogloblin has 27 points. Danilo Svorcan has recorded 21 goals. Matt Cote has gone 11-3 in goal, allowing 8.14 goals per game. The Lakers are a combined 4-0 against the other three teams in the tournament this season.
 
Salem International is 3-13 this season, having gone 1-3 last weekend. The Tigers took down Penn State Behrend, 20-15, before falling to Gannon, Washington and Jefferson, and Mercyhurst. Michal Izdinsky paces the Salem offense with 64 goals.
 
Gannon has a 6-6 record. It swept four games last weekend, taking down Washington and Jefferson, Salem, Penn State Behrend, and Notre Dame College. Raz Yuval leads the Golden Knights with 47 goals. Daisuke Takagi is next with 22 goals and a team-high 21 assists.
 
Notre Dame sports a 7-10 mark after going 1-3 last weekend. It defeated Behrend, 22-5.
 
Coach Curtis Robinette's squads have dominated the CWPA Division II Championship recently. They have won the last two tournaments and five of the last six.
