Women's Basketball Falls at #19 Indiana (Pa.) Saturday

INDIANA, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 100-47, at #19 Indiana (Pa.) Saturday evening. The Crimson Hawks hit 14-21 three-point attempts in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest at the Kovalchick Complex.
 
Indiana hit five of its first six field goal tries to begin the game and did not look back. After an IUP three, Dana Banda scored inside. The hosts scored nine straight points to take control before a trey by Adrienne Kloecker with 16:18 left. Baskets by Kaylee Foster and Lindsey Burke were the only recourse in a run by the Hawks to pull away midway through the half.
 
Kristi Ewanick hit a three with 6:10 remaining to make it 38-15. IUP's full court press continued to flummox the Lakers, who committed 15 first-half turnovers. Two Ashley Stoner layups made it 56-25 at the break. Indiana hit 8-9 three-pointers in the half.
 
The home team scored the first eight points of the second period to secure its advantage.
 
Banda finished with nine points on 4-5 shooting. Taylor Krusinski had nine points and Burke added seven. Five Hawks scored in double figures.
 
As a team, IUP had a 49-22 advantage in rebounding. The Lakers shot 18-51 from the field, while the Hawks hit 35-66 of its attempts.
 
Mercyhurst fell to 5-12 overall and 5-8 in the PSAC. It returns home for another PSAC game on Wednesday, January 30. Tip-off against Edinboro is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
