ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 73-55, at West Chester Friday evening.
Adrienne Kloecker had 18 points and
Kaylee Foster scored 17 points in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game at Hollinger Field House.
The Lakers took an early lead and hung around until the midway point of the first half. Kloecker hit a three-pointer for the first points of the game. After two Rams buckets,
Dana Banda got the Mercyhurst offense going. She found Foster for a layup and then hit Kloecker for a trey. A few minutes later, Kloecker connected again, giving the visitors a 10-7 advantage.
Alayna White scored to stretch the lead with 13:26 remaining.
The Rams quickly tied the game at 12 at the 12-minute mark. Neither team was able to put any points up for a few minutes before West Chester scored five points.
Kristi Ewanick answered with a triple with 9:02 to go. The hosts scored the game's next seven points to pull away.
Kelley McBroom scored inside to make it 24-17 with 4:56 left. The Rams again went on a 7-0 spurt to expand their advantage before Kloecker closed the frame with a pair of free throws.
West Chester upped its lead to 38-21 early in the second half. Baskets by Foster and White were topped by nine straight Ram points. Foster hit a layup and a jumper, but the Rams still held a 50-29 lead with 10:27 to go. Foster converted a three-point play and then
Lindsey Burke drained a trey, making it 54-35. The home team maintained its margin the rest of the way.
Kloecker hit 4-8 three-pointers on her way to a career-high 18 points. She also had nine rebounds and four assists. Foster totaled 17 points on 6-12 shooting. White was next with eight points and six boards. Kendall Benovy scored 18 points to lead the Rams, while Alex Lennon posted nine points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, and four steals.
Mercyhurst dropped to 3-9 overall and 3-5 in the league. West Chester is now 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference. It heads to Cheyney tomorrow for its final PSAC crossover contest. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Cope Hall.
