ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team will host part of the Mercyhurst Gannon Invitational September 7-8 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC). The MAC will be the site for six matches on Friday and Saturday.

The Lakers opened the 2012 season by going 3-1 at the Ferris State Invitational last weekend. Coach
Ryan Patton's squad beat Ferris, the fourteenth-ranked team in Division 2, in five games August 31. The victory was the program's first over a ranked foe in Patton's time at Mercyhurst. The Lakers followed that up by sweeping Glenville State and Northwood on September 1.
Sarah Vick totaled 34 kills, while
Becky Leusch had 32.
Elyse Texido posted 70 digs, including 35 against Ferris, the most by a Laker since 2004.
Holy Family went to the Marauder Clash at Millersville last weekend and went 0-4, getting swept in each contest. It took a 3-1 loss at Wilmington (Del.) Wednesday night. In 2011, the Tigers won 25 matches on their way to the regular season Central Athletic Collegiate Conference South Division title.
Ohio Dominican started the year 1-2, beating Davis & Elkins and falling to Caldwell and Wisconsin-Parkside at the Gannon Invitational. Last season, the Panthers went 12-17 in their first year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Mercyhurst's former league.
West Virginia State lost all four of its outings at the Ferris State Invitational last weekend and then fell at Urbana on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets were swept in each match. They went 12-13 in 2011.
Lake Erie College will open its 2012 season this weekend, playing two matches at Gannon Friday before coming to the MAC Saturday. The Storm went 3-23 in 2011.
