Field Hockey Falls, 3-2, at #10 Slippery Rock Wednesday

Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 3-2, at #10 Slippery Rock Wednesday night. Marissa Faso and Blair Pembleton each scored for the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest.

The teams went back and forth for much of the match, with Faso getting the visitors on the board first. At the 30:16, the sophomore converted a penalty stroke for a 1-0 edge. The Lakers went into halftime with the advantage, as goalkeeper Jess Wess made 10 saves.

Ally Banks tied the game early in the second frame and then put the Rock ahead in the 58th minute. Pembleton answered at the 59:09 mark. Faso inserted a penalty corner, with Meghan Smith putting on a shot on goal. Pembleton found the loose ball and evened the score. However, Allison Shade had the final score, giving the hosts the late lead at the 67:52 mark.

Wess compiled 17 saves in net as Mercyhurst dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC in 2012. The Rock is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Lakers host #4 IUP on Saturday, September 22, at Tullio Field in another PSAC contest.
