Box Score 2 ERIE, Pa. – After two days of postponement, Mercyhurst University and Edinboro University's softball teams met today, April 12 at Mercyhurst Softball Field. The Fighting Scots handed the Lakers their first two losses at home this season with a sweep winning game one, 4-2 before shutting the Lakers out in a 4-0 showing in game two.
The sweep drops Mercyhurst to 21-20 overall this season and sets them back in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West with a 4-6 record. The Fighting Scots improve to 14-14 overall this season and more importantly are in a tie with the Lakers for third place in the PSAC West with a 4-6 record.
Edinboro opened up scoring in the first game plating two runs in the third inning. The Lakers battled back cutting the Fighting Scots lead in half after freshman Shania Bunker put a ball in play that could not be handled by the Edinboro defense scoring senior

The Fighting Scots kept the offensive pressure up plating a run in the fourth and fifth inning expanding their lead to 4-1. Again Bunker helped the Lakers cut the lead in half as she turned on a pitch sending it down the left field line over the fence for her fourth homer of the season. That's the closest the Lakers would get as Amanda Shields of Edinboro retired five of the next six Lakers batters concluding a 4-2 game.
Shields held the Lakers to just two hits and improves to 8-7 on the season while freshman
Annie Truelove suffered the loss, her 10
th of the season. Truelove pitched five innings before junior
Megan Hopton came in for relief. Hopton recorded four strike outs while allowing just one hit in her two innings of work.
Mercyhrust was unable to get the offense going all afternoon and would be shutout in game two by Edinboro's Kari Falk. Falk held the Lakers to three hits in the game improving to 6-7 on the season. Senior
Kristi Janoske pitched a complete game for the Lakers striking out a season high six batters in the process. The senior gave up two quick runs in the first inning but settled down pitching five consecutive shutout innings. All told, Janoske gave up eight hits and four runs suffering her fifth loss of the season.
