GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst University softball team split its twinbill with Glenville State College yesterday, March 11 at the Sue Morris Complex in Glenville, W. Va. The Lakers dropped the first game, 5-2 before winning the nightcap, 10-2.
The split moves the Lakers to a 10-10 overall record while Glenville State now holds a 3-10 record.
The Pioneer defense held Mercyhurst to six scoreless innings in the first game. The Lakers were able to score two runs in the top of the seventh but their rally fell short, handing Glenville State its third win of the season. Freshman
Annie Truelove took the loss as she gave up three hits, three runs and walked two, in two innings of work. Truelove is now 2-5 on the year.
The Lakers bounced back in game two, scoring 10 runs on 19 hits. Sophomore
Megan Smith blasted a homerun in her first two at bats as she led the team with a four-for-four performance from the plate, driving in four runs and scoring three times. Sophomore
Courtney Smith registered her third multi-RBI game of the season as she drove in two runs. She also scored twice, going a perfect four-for-four from the dish. Senior

Kristen Fyffe, and freshman Rebecca Malaga each tallied an RBI in the nightcap.

Kristi Janoske earned her fourth win of the season, allowing just four hits while striking out three. Her counterpart, Megan Lesser was credited with the loss in two and a third innings pitched.
The Lakers get set to travel to Salem, Virginia to compete in the Salem Tournament. They will compete in two games on Friday, two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. Mercyhurst squares off against Shepherd to start the tournament on Friday at 11 a.m.
