Women's Basketball Looks for Sweep of Clarion Wednesday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will host Clarion Wednesday, February 8, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

The Lakers enter Wednesday 10-10 overall and 8-8 in the conference. They are alone in fifth place in the Western Division, one game back of California (Pa.). Hurst has won its last two outings, including a 64-58 win at Slippery Rock February 4. Dana Banda led with 23 points-her fifth double-digit scoring game in her last six contests.
 
The Lady Eagles are 6-14 overall and 5-11 in the league. They are in seventh place in the West-four games out of fourth. Clarion lost, 78-62, at Indiana (Pa.) February 4.
 
Senior Nikki Frederickson leads the Lakers with 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 57.4 percent field goal shooting. Banda has been hot lately, upping her season average to 8.7 points while leading the team with 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She is scoring 14.3 points a contest in the last three weeks.
 
Clarion features a young lineup, led by freshman Hannah Heeter. She is posting 11.6 points and 10.8 boards a game, while Emma Fickel is averaging 10.7 points, having made 45 three-pointers this season.
 
In their first meeting this season, Mercyhurst won, 55-46, at Clarion on January 11. Frederickson had 15 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
