MIAMI, Fla. - The Mercyhurst softball team dropped a doubleheader at 15th-ranked Barry on Tuesday afternoon, losing by the final scores of 5-2 and 7-1. The Lakers dropped to 6-6 on the season while Barry improved to 14-3.

In the first game, the Buccaneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, scoring single runs in each of the first two innings. But, the Lakers responded with some two-out magic in the top of the third inning.

After Andrea Sauers and Molly McNamara were retired, the reigning PSAC West Player of the Week Samantha Eimers singled up the middle. Lauren Rossi followed with a single, and both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Second baseman Emily Redig drove them both home with a single, tying the game at 2-2.

The Buccaneers answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame, and never trailed the rest of the way. Barry would score again in the fourth and sixth innings for the 5-2 victory.

Annie Truelove was saddled with the loss, allowing seven hits and in the complete game performance. Only two of the five runs she allowed were earned. Truelove struck out two and walked three in falling to 2-2 on the season.

In the second game, Mercyhurst scored first, plating a run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Jen Bower had an RBI single, driving home Eimers, who reached on an error to lead off the game.

However, that would be the only offense that the Lakers could muster the rest of the way and the Buccaneers came storming back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to seal the deal.

Kristi Janoske allowed just two hits through the first three innings, but could not get out of the five-run fourth inning. She suffered her first loss of the season, allowing three runs on four hits in three-and-two-thirds innings. She walked two and struck out five. Megan Smith and Megan Hopton closed out the game and allowed three earned runs in two-and-a-third innings of relief.

Mercyhurst will get right back into action on Wednesday evening with a pair of games against Nova Southeastern. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
