Box Score

MOON TWP, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Mercyhurst University women's hockey team fell to Robert Morris University Friday night, 3-1, at the Robert Morris Island Sports Complex.  The Lakers fell to 14-2-1 in the season, and 6-1-0 in College Hockey America (CHA).  The Colonials improved to 8-4-2 this season and 4-2-0 in the CHA.

Robert Morris was the first on the board at 8:32 in the first period when the Colonials Kristen Richards scored on the power play.  Mercyhurst goaltender Amanda Makela made back-to-back saves on Robert Morris' Rebecca Vint and Kelsey Thomas.  But Richards capitalized on Thomas' rebound, giving the Colonials a 1-0 advantage.

The Lakers answered seven minutes later when defensemen Molly Byrne led her team into the offensive zone.  Byrne fed the puck to the front of the net where Christie Cicero tipped it to freshman Jenna Dingeldein who knocked the puck in between the pipes.  The assist marked Cicero's 50th career point, and her eight assist of the season.

The Lakers were outshot 9-8 in the first period.

The Lakers held Robert Morris to just four shots on goal in the middle period, but couldn't score themselves despite four power play chances and seven shots.

Robert Morris tallied its second goal of the game, again on the power play, at 12:59 of the third.  Katie Fergus scored her second goal of the season from Vint and Thea Imbrogno.  Vint then finished the scoring with an unassisted goal with just over two minutes left.

Mercyhurst pulled Makela (6-2-1) with 1:23 left in regulation time but could not solve RMU netminder Kristen DiCiocco.

Both goaltenders made 19 saves on the night, with DiCiocco (7-3-2) getting the win.

The two teams wrap up the weekend series on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Robert Morris Island Sports Complex.  This contest will conclude the Lakers' 2012 portion of the season.
