ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 70-60, to Kutztown Sunday afternoon. Kaylee Foster led the Lakers with 14 points in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest, held at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
Kutztown led, 35-29, at halftime, but the Lakers rallied. Adrienne Kloecker hit a three-pointer with 10:29 left for a 46-45 edge. Abby Allen followed with a steal and a basket. The Bears hit three free throws before Alayna White split a pair from the line. Ashley Wood gave KU a 50-49 advantage with 8:47 remaining. The visitors did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
 
Buckets by Avery Hodgson, Aly York, and Wood stretched the lead to 56-49 before Allen slowed the spurt with two free throws. Kutztown hit 1-2 free throws on its next possession, but Foster's layup made it 57-53 with 4:25 to go. Dana Banda hit a lay-in to cut the deficit to two. However, Alyssa Bonenberger responded with a bucket and then a free throw. Wood hit two free throws and Bonenberger all but closed out the game with a jumper for a 64-55 advantage with 2:01 left.
 
Foster hit 6-11 from the floor for 14 points in 23 minutes. Kloecker had 13 points, hitting three treys and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Banda added nine points and five boards, while Allen had eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Wood led the Bears with 23 points.
 
The Lakers hit 20-51 (39.2 percent) from the field, while KU converted 25-54 (46.3 percent) in the game. Kutztown had a 38-26 advantage in points in the paint.
 
Mercyhurst is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC. Kutztown improved to 2-3 and 1-1 in the conference. The Lakers host Lock Haven in the PSAC Western Division opener Saturday, December 8. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at the MAC.
