SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team dropped a 66-49 decision at Shippensburg Tuesday evening.
Dana Banda scored 15 points and
Kaylee Foster added 14 to lead the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover loss.
Mercyhurst got off to a slow start and had to play from behind throughout the game. Ship led by as many as 20 before the Lakers tried to rally late. Two Dana Wert free throws made it 48-34 with 9:20 left.
Alayna White followed with a layup and then
Taylor Krusinski scored a few minutes later. The Raiders answered with a three-pointer, but Foster came back with a basket and later a free throw to make it 53-41 at the 5:44 mark. After a Ship free throw, Banda drained a trey and then Foster made a layup to get Mercyhurst within eight at the 3:45 mark. But a three-point play by Raediah Lyles put the hosts back ahead, 58-46, and effectively ended the contest.
Banda totaled 15 points and three steals in 37 minutes. Foster had 14 points on 5-7 shooting to go with five rebounds. Krusinski hit 3-4 field goal tries for six points in her Laker debut.
Abby Allen posted five points, nine boards, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Four Raiders scored in double figures, led by Dana Wert with 15 points.
Mercyhurst (2-4, 2-2 PSAC) plays at Millersville in another PSAC crossover game tomorrow. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Pucillo Gymnasium.
