MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 14 Mercyhurst men's soccer team will travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to take on cross-town rivals Gannon University on Friday, November 16. The match indicates the Atlantic Regional Championship, where the winner will move on to the national quarterfinal on Sunday, November 18.

Mercyhurst and Gannon have met once this season, where the Lakers defeated the Golden Knights 4-2 in the regular season finale on October 27. Four different Lakers contributed towards the victory as Freshman Sten Marscon, sophomores
Fernando Martinez and
Ryan Lund, and Senior
Alex Manea all scored. Gannon's Robbie Bennett and Tyler Hollingsworth both scored for the Golden Knights.
Mercyhurst has a 22-15-1 lifetime advantage over Gannon, having played one neutral site game back on November 3, 1982 where Mercyhurst won 2-0. This cross-town rivalry has dated back since 1976, when Mercyhurst traveled to Gannon for the first time and lost 5-0.
The Lakers (15-5-1) are currently on a seven game winning streak, including the PSAC regular season title, and their first-ever PSAC Tournament Championship. Sophomore
Sam Dorf scored the game-winning goal at the 87 minute of the second round of the NCAA playoffs. The Lakers downed Charleston, 1-0 in Charleston, West Virginia. Senior
Alex Manea leads the team with 14 goals and six assists on 34 points. Sophomore
Fernando Martinez has scored seven goals and seven assists for 21 points, and Senior
Austin Solomon has added six goals and four assists for 16 points.
Gannon University (13-5) received first seed in the Atlantic Region and hosted fourth-seed Davis &Elkins last Sunday. Gannon posted a 2-1 victory over Davis & Elkins, having won their last four NCAA tournaments at home. Gannon's top Scorer, Bennett has ten goals and six assists for 26 points this season. Hollingsworth follows close behind with eight goals and three assists, while Sean Pike has five goals on six assists. Gannon is 6-8 all time in NCAA Division II tournament matches .
The two teams will compete against each other at Southern New Hampshire University who is hosting both Atlantic and East Regional Championships. SNHU will host UMass Lowell on Friday evening, where the winner of Gannon/ Mercyhurst will play SNHU/UMass Lowell on Sunday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m.
