Field Hockey Stumbles at Seton Hill, 5-2, Saturday

GREENSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 5-2, at Seton Hill Saturday afternoon. Kelsey Lovelace and Kelsey Violanti each scored for the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West defeat.

After a scoreless twenty minutes to open the contest, Michelle Hogan put the hosts on the board. She scored at the 20:29 mark and then added another goal at the 23:05 mark to make it 2-0 Seton Hill. Lovelace answered for the Lakers with 8:36 left in the first half, finishing a pass from Blair Pembleton.

Joanna Pichardo got the Griffins going in the second half, scoring twice under two minutes to stretch the lead to 4-1. SHU added another score later in the half to take a four-goal advantage. Violanti capped the match's scoring at the 59:39 mark, as Emily Koestler assisted.

Mercyhurst outshot the hosts, 15-9, and earned 14 penalty corners to just seven for the Griffins. 

The Lakers fell to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC West with the loss.

Mercyhurst hosts Slippery Rock in another conference game on Tuesday, October 9. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start at Tullio Field.
