Box Score ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team won its tenth consecutive match, beating Slippery Rock in four games Saturday night. The Lakers won by scores of 18-25, 25-12, 25-23, and 25-20 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Coach
Ryan Patton's group is 23-6 overall and 10-5 in the conference. The win total is the most for the program since the 1993 season. The team has also posted separate winning streaks of 12 and now 10 matches in 2012. The Lakers have also beaten every other team in the PSAC Western Division for the first time since joining the league in 2008.
Camille Alvarez led Mercyhurst Saturday, totaling 13 kills and 18 digs.
Becky Leusch had 12 kills and
Kiera Rebert dished out 27 assists and grabbed 11 digs.
Elyse Texido compiled 22 digs as the Laker defense contained the Rock to a .131 hitting percentage. The hosts hit .210 in the contest, including a .314 mark in the match-turning third set.
The teams split the first two frames. In the third set, the squads went back and forth with neither gaining the advantage. With the game even at 22, the Rock took the lead on a kill. Alvarez bounced back with a kill to tie the set. A Rock attack error made it game point and Alvarez and Stefanov put up a block for a 2-1 match advantage.
The Lakers host Edinboro Tuesday, October 30. The PSAC match is set for a 7:05 p.m. start.
