ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team host's cross-town rival Gannon University on Saturday, October 27. Kickoff for the match is set for 1:00 p.m.
The Mercyhurst Lakers are 11-5-1 this season and 6-2 in the PSAC. The Lakers currently hold a 4-2 record when on their home field. Senior
Alex Manea leads the team with ten goals and five assists. He averages a .510 shots on goal percentage this season and has scored four game-winning goals. Senior
Austin Solomon is second on the team with six goals and three assists.
Gannon is 12-3 this season and is 6-2 as well in the conference. Gannon sits 6-1 when traveling. Gannon's Robbie Bennett has eight goals and five assists on the season and leads the team in points with a .521 shots on goal percentage. Tyler Hollingsworth is second in the team with seven goals and two assists and is second on the team with a .550 shots on goal percentage.
This cross-town matchup has two teams that are currently tied for first in the PSAC. Millersville hosts West Chester on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as well. If Mercyhurst wins, they will receive the number one seed, and host the Final Four in the conference on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. If Mercyhurst were to lose, they would finish as the #3 seed in the PSAC and host a game on Tuesday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m.
If Mercyhurst were to tie Gannon, and there is a winner of the West Chester-Millersville game, then Mercyhurst will be the #3 seed and host on Tuesday. If West Chester-Millersville ties as well, Mercyhurst will move up to be the number two seed, earning a bye in the first round of playoffs.
