Women's Soccer Falls to #13 California (Pa.), 4-2

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Senior Sara Hawksworth scored her seventh goal of the season, but women's soccer falls short against #13 California (Pa.), 4-2 on Saturday.  The Lakers fall to 6-9-1 overall. The Vulcans improve to 12-3-1 this season.
 
California (Pa.) scored two unanswered goals in the first half before the Lakers could minimize the lead to one.  The Vulcans Stephanie Thompson scored her second goal of the season at 4:33 into the first.  Bethany Smyda scored again at the 24:53 mark off of a pass from Chelsea Crockett.  Freshman Kristina Roberti scored her first goal of the season with five minutes left in the first to make the score 2-1 going into the half.
 
The Vulcans started the second half by a goal from Chelsea Crockett making it her sixth goal of the season.  Hawksworth kept her team in the match at 68:55 scoring her seventh goal and giving the Lakers a one goal difference between California (Pa.).  With less than ten minutes left, Erin Hogan scored off a pass from Haley Henderson, making it her third goal of the season.
 
Freshman goaltender Ellie McDougall (4-7-0) made 12 saves on 16 shots.   California (Pa.) goaltender Ashley Magruda improved to 11-3-1, making four saves on six shots.
 
The Lakers will be at home on Wednesday, October 24 when they host Lock Haven University at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field at 2:30 p.m.
