Lauren Testa scores two goals to lead women's soccer to a 2-1 overtime win against Shippensburg University on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers win their second win of the conference, and improve to 6-8-1 overall.
The match remained scoreless in the first half, as there was little action with only five shots taken by Shippensburg and four taken by Mercyhurst.
Both Mercyhurst and Shippensburg took 13 shots in the second, and each scoring a late goal to take the match into overtime. Senior
Sara Hawksworth set up a play 18 yards out, who then passed it to
Nikki Charboneau, who in turn gave it to Testa. Testa had a one on one with Shippensburg goaltender Shelbie Rackely, where she gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead at 81:53. Shippensburg's Kate Zech scored late in the second to tie the match at 88:49, to take the Lakers into their fourth overtime of their season.
Overtime would finish with one shot from each team, with Mercyhurst sending their shot into the back of the net. Hawksworth notched her second assist of the season when she set up Testa. Testa set up 25 yards out from the net and took a hard shot into the top right corner of the net.
Freshman
Ellie McDougall received the win in net, making nine saves on ten shots. Rackley played the entire 97:06 for Shippensburg in net, making nine saves on eleven shots.
The Lakers travel to California (Pa.) for a night match against the Vulcans at 7:00 p.m.
