ST. CHARLES, Mo.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team won, 4-2, at Lindenwood Sunday afternoon.
Meghan Smith led the Lakers with two goals in the non-conference win.
Blair Pembleton started the scoring at the eight-minute mark of the first half, putting her team ahead 1-0. A few minutes later, Smith converted a penalty stroke to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage. The Lions answered at the 17:40 mark, as Kristi O'Connor got the hosts within one.
Smith continued her strong first half, finishing a
Marissa Faso penalty corner at the 25:17 mark. Lindenwood came back with a score less than two minutes later, though, leading to a 3-2 Mercyhurst edge at the half.
After a slow start in the second period, it was the Lakers who got the key goal. Freshman
Cayla Slade found the back of the net at the 43:44 mark. Pembleton had the assist.
Jess Wess made four saves in net to pick up the victory. The Lakers outshot the Lions, 21-12, and totaled 14 penalty corners to just five for Lindenwood.
Mercyhurst is now 6-10 on the year. It hosts #1 Shippensburg on Wednesday, October 17, in the 2012 home finale.
