Women's Tennis Continues Fine Start To The Season

The women's tennis team defeated Allegheny 5-1 in a rain-shortened match on Tuesday.
MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College women's tennis continued their strong play at the start of the fall season, defeating Allegheny College 5-1 on Tuesday in Meadville. The Lakers were leading in all three singles matches that could not be completed due to inclement weather in the Meadville area.

Sophomore Courtney Thompson, freshman Sarah Baich, and junior Jenna Raynor each won their singles matches in straight sets. Thompson won 6-0, 6-2. Baich was victorious 6-0, 6-3. Raynor won 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Caroline Bristol (#1), freshman Taylor Wedlake (#2), and junior Rebecca Haener (#3) could not complete their singles matches, but were leading at the time the rains came.

On the doubles side, Haener and Thompson teamed up for an 8-3 victory, while Raynor paired wih freshman Katelyn Caniford for an 8-2 victory. The lone loss for Mercyhurst was suffered by the doubles team of Bristol and Baich, who lost 8-6.

The Lakers remain undefeated as they head into their next match on Saturday, September 17 at West Liberty.
