ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst College softball team will be traveling to Florida to compete in five non-conference doubleheaders. The games are set for Feb.25, Feb.26, Feb.28, Mar.1, and Mar.2.
The spring break trip will begin with a game against St. Thomas University. St. Thomas currently holds a 3-3 record thru the first six games of their season. Mercyhurst leads in the head-to-head battle against the Bobcats with a 2-1-1 advantage. The first pitch is set for a 2 p.m. start on Feb.25.
On Feb.26 the Lakers travel to West Palm Beach where they will compete against Northwood University. Northwood is 3-7 overall this season in five doubleheaders. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
After a day off the squad will take their talents to south beach and face off against Barry University. Last season the Lakers split with the Buccaneers winning 6-3 and losing 5-8. The Bucs are 4-4 this season and are scheduled to play in two doubleheaders before taking on Mercyhurst on Feb.28 at 11 a.m.
Last season the Lakers faced Lynn University for the first time in program history. The Lakers split with Lynn winning the second game 3-4 after being shutout in the first game in a 3-0 defeat. The fighting Knights have three wins on the season after competing in 11 games. Live stats for both games along with live audio will be available for the double header in Boca Raton, Fla.. From Boca Raton, Fla. the Lakers will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. where they will compete in their last twinbill of the trip. Mercyhurst will take the diamond against Nova Southeastern at 5 p.m., a competitor that the Lakers have yet to compete against in the programs 36 year history. The Sharks are 6-4 thus far this season and are 2-0 in home games.

Courtney Smith and Junior
Samantha Eimers lead the team in batting with a .500 average. On the season Smith supports eight hits, seven RBI, seven runs, and belted a home run in her first collegiate game against Mount Olive.
Eimers is currently on a five game hit streak with four home runs. Eimers hit three homeruns in two games, two of them coming against Chowan in the first game of the doubleheader. Eimers has scored ten runs and supports ten RBI thus far off of eight hits.
Amanda Norman leads the Lakers in wins this season winning her first three games she appeared in. The senior supports a 4.61 ERA allowing only 14 hits in the three games pitched. Her opponents are batting .286 and she has given up nine runs all of which have been earned.
After returning to Erie, Pa. the Lakers will have a short week to get ready for the Glenville State Tournament hosted by Glenville. The Lakers will compete in three doubleheaders in three days while in West Virginia.
