Women's Basketball Hosts Home Opener Saturday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team hosts two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) games this weekend at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers face Kutztown on Saturday, December 3, at 1 p.m. in the 2011-12 home opener and then play East Stroudsburg on Sunday at the same time.

Mercyhurst is 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Lakers have not played since a 67-57 loss at West Chester November 20. Freshman Lindsay Stamp is second in the PSAC with 19.3 points per game. She is the first PSAC freshman to lead her team in scoring in the first four games of her career since at least 2004.
 
Kutztown is 2-5 this season. The Golden Bears won at Chestnut Hill, 69-55, on November 30. They split two games in the first set of PSAC crossovers, defeating Clarion, 72-46, and falling to Gannon, 90-57. Ashley Wood leads the team, scoring 17.3 points per game. Avery Hodgson is next with 12.6 points and 6.1 boards a game.
 
East Stroudsburg is 2-2 overall, having beat Georgian Court and Concordia at the Pocono Classic last weekend. The Warriors lost to Gannon and Clarion in the first round of PSAC crossovers November 19-20. Cyara Woodridge is averaging 15 points on 56 percent shooting this season.
