#15 Mercyhurst Can't Tame Lock Haven in 2-1 Loss Saturday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The #15 Mercyhurst men's soccer team lost, 2-1, at Lock Haven Saturday afternoon. Greg Shertzer scored both goals for the Bald Eagles in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win. Billy Colton moved within one score of the Lakers' all-time goals record in defeat.

The match got off to a slow start, with neither team able to find the net in the first half. The teams attempted just five shots combined in the first 45 minutes. Lock Haven got on the board early in the second frame, with Shertzer scoring from 28 yards out to go ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute. A few minutes, Shertzer headed in an insurance goal for the Eagles.

Austin Solomon drew a penalty in the box late in the contest, allowing Colton a chance to score. The senior easily beat the Lock Haven goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 82:41 mark. The Lakers couldn't muster another run though, as the home team held on for the victory.

The Eagles outshot Hurst 13-6 in the match, while Mercyhurst compiled 11 corner kicks to just three for the Haven. James van Stallduine made four saves in the loss.

Colton's goal was the 11th of the campaign, giving him 55 for his career. Mickey Blythe holds the all-time goals record at Mercyhurst with 56. The Lakers' final regular season contest is set for Saturday, October 29, at crosstown rival Gannon. Coincidentally, Blythe is an assistant coach for the Golden Knights.

Hurst dropped to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC with the defeat. For a box score of the Mercyhurst-Lock Haven match, click here.
