No. 2 Cornell Downs No. 4 Women's Hockey, 3-0

ERIE, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Mercyhurst College women's hockey team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday as No. 2 Cornell blanked the Lakers 3-0 in front of a 968 fans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Lakers, who fall to 18-5-0 on the season, suffered their first shutout since a 5-0 loss to then-No. 1 Wisconsin in the 2009 NCAA Women's Frozen Four Title Game. It also marked the first shutout at home since a 1-0 setback to Minnesota Oct. 21, 2005.

Karlee Overguard lifted Big Red (18-1-0) to a split of the season series when she scored her first of two goals in the game midway through the second period. She later added her second at the 11:08 mark of the third period. Catherine White accounted for the third Big Red score less than three minutes later.

Despite suffering the loss, junior Hillary Pattenden shined in goal for Mercyhurst, stopping 29 shots and holding Big Red scoreless for nearly 32 minutes of the game. She also helped kill off four Cornell power plays (0-for-4), including a 5-on-3 advantage during the second period. Cornell's Lauren Slebodnick, meanwhile, recorded 24 saves as Big Red outshot the Lakers 32-24 and went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Mercyhurst will look to bounce back this weekend when it takes on College Hockey America foe Robert Morris on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22 at the RMU Island Sports Center. Game times are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m.
