INDIANA, Pa. -- Behind a solid performance from nearly the entire Lakers' roster, the Mercyhurst College volleyball team blanked West Virginia State and Davis & Elkins at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference / West Virginia State Athletic Conference Challenge.

Mercyhurst (4-2) downed West Virginia State, 25-12, 25-13, 25-14 while blanking Davis & Elkins, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21.

In the first match of the day, Amanda Balasko paced Mercyhurst with eight kills in 12 attempts.  Becky Smith chipped in five kills in seven attempts while Becky Leusch tallied four kills.  Setters Chelsea Hennigan and Kiera Rebert dished out the helpers efficiently with 20 and 11 helpers, respectively.

Rebert also shared the team lead (4) in aces with Elyse Texido.  

Defensively, Kendall Ashworth recorded 12 digs and three players in Kelsi Romatowski, Veronica Crosby and B. Smith provided two blocks each.

Against Davis & Elkins, Chelsea Jensen posted 11 kills while B. Smith added five kills.  Rebert paced the setters with 19 assists and again led the team with three service aces.  Ashworth provided 10 digs to lead the defense, with Balasko chipping in eight digs as well.  B. Smith again led the team in blocks with four, while Leusch added two.

The Lakers are back in action tomorrow when they take on Alderson-Broaddus and Shepherd at 12 noon and 6 p.m., respectively.
