Lakers to Host Clarion in Pink Zone Game

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst College women's basketball team takes on Clarion in their 2010 Pink Zone Contest Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Fans unable to attend can follow the action on redzonemedia.com. Wednesday's contest also serves as Mercyhurst's women's basketball Senior Night, as senior student-athletes Jackie Artise, Kelsey Gordon and Lindsay Whipkey will be honored before the game.

Wednesday's game will be the second Mercyhurst's “Pink Zone” games. The WBCA Pink Zone™ initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Several “Pink Zone” items will be available for purchase, with proceeds being split be split between the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and the Kelly Salvo Morey Scholarship Fund . Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the initiative.

The Lakers (12-10, 4-6 PSAC West) and Golden Eagles (12-11, 3-7 PSAC West) meet in a rematch of a thrilling 61-58 Mercyhurst victory over Clarion which happened Jan. 27 at Tippin Gymnasium. Amy Achesinski scored 26 points, and Megan Hoffman made three game-winning three-pointer. Bethany Koch led the Golden Eagles with 19 points.
