FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Amy Achesinski registered 30 points and 10 rebounds to guide the Mercyhurst College women's basketball team to its first victory of the season as the Lakers downed host Alaska Fairbanks in overtime, 68-64.

Playing in the Alaska Fairbanks Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational, Achesinski tallied eight of the Lakers 10 points in the extra session to finish 12-of-19 from the floor and 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.  She and Samantha Loadman (14 pts, 4 rebs, 2 assts) combined for over half the Lakers points in the win.

Loadman gave the Lakers a two-point advantage with just over a minute remaining in the game, but teammate Dana Banda fouled the Nanooks Jessica Harrison who hit both free throws with 46 left in regulation to knot the score, 58-58.

From there, it was all Achesinski in overtime as the Lakers outscored the Nanooks 10-6 in the extra session, including a 5-0 run to start.

Next up for Mercyhurst is the final game of the Alaska trip as the Lakers are set to face Dominican at 9:15 p.m. EST.
